        Old English Period in English Literature   The Old English period is the earliest recorded period of the English language. It began around the 5th century AD with the arrival of the Germanic tribes, particularly the Angles, Saxons, and Jutes, in what is now England. The language they brought with them developed into what we know as Old English. During this period, the English language was heavily influenced by other languages, particularly Latin and Norse.
